About this repair

A swollen, rapidly draining, overheating, or non-charging battery can make your laptop unreliable, limit its portability, or prevent it from turning on. Heartland Computer provides professional laptop battery testing and replacement services in Omaha and Council Bluffs.

Our technicians inspect the battery and charging system to determine whether the problem is caused by the battery or another component. After completing the diagnosis, we explain our findings and provide an estimated repair cost before performing additional work.

Common Signs of a Failing Laptop Battery

Your laptop may need battery service if you notice:

  • Battery drains significantly faster than before
  • Laptop works only when connected to the charger
  • Battery does not charge or stops at a certain percentage
  • “Plugged in, not charging” message
  • Battery percentage changes unexpectedly
  • Laptop shuts down without warning
  • Battery is not detected by the operating system
  • Laptop becomes unusually hot while charging
  • Battery takes too long to charge
  • Charging indicator flashes or displays an error
  • Trackpad, keyboard, or laptop case begins lifting
  • Bottom cover becomes warped or separated
  • Battery appears swollen or physically damaged

Battery and Charging-System Diagnosis

A laptop that does not charge does not always have a failed battery. Similar symptoms may be caused by a damaged charger, loose charging port, incompatible power adapter, faulty charging cable, software or firmware problem, or motherboard charging-circuit failure.

Our battery evaluation may include:

  • Battery health and capacity testing
  • Battery-cycle and condition review
  • Charger and power-adapter testing
  • Charging-port and cable inspection
  • Charging-circuit evaluation
  • BIOS, firmware, and driver review
  • Internal connection inspection
  • Visual inspection for swelling, heat, or physical damage

Once we identify the likely cause, we will recommend the appropriate repair. We will not replace the battery unnecessarily if the problem is related to another component.
